Prints inspired by visits to the small island of Easdale in the Inner Hebrides Scotland. The centre of the former Slate Industry it is a scarred, beautiful, post-industrial landscape, battered by wild Atlantic storms. Each Print has been painted digitally, using a stylus and a mobile tablet or desktop tablet.

The Atlantic Ocean rages and whips up the kelp and seaweed into strands and globs of foam that blow across the island.

Dotted around the island are small clusters of white miners’ cottages. Small ladders can often be seen coming down to the water.

The title refers to a traditional English folk song from Northumberland. It tells of a woman desperately hoping for a southerly wind to blow her lover back home over the sea to her.

The ruins of the mining industry are dotted around the island.
There are several ruins on Easdale. At night it feels like the island is full of ghosts, as they slip out of their hiding places, free spirits, roaming the dark rock.
The ghosts of the past rise up out of the remnants of the industry on Easdale. They emerge from chimneys and begin to threaten the small cottages perched on the rock.

When I was on Easdale I hiked over the hills and came across a submerged skull in a brook. It is an image that came back to haunt me in 2020.
